Youth leadership and participation

The young people in Moldova represent 25% of population and investing in young people is in everyone’s interest. Effective implementation of the policies that address young people’s sexual and reproductive health and rights, active participation of young people and securing a place at the decision table, all these conditions create opportunities for young people to realize their full potential.

UNFPA Moldova is assisting the Government of Moldova to develop policies aiming to improve the quality of life of young people and their civil empowerment. UNFPA Moldova supports the development of the Youth Gap Index in Moldova, which shows the existing gap between the young people situation compared with the adult population in different social-economic areas: employment, participation, health, risky behaviour and violence.

The Index will help the Government to develop evidence-based policies aiming at ensuring that youth needs are addressed and the quality of life of young people in Moldova increases. UNFPA also contributed to the development and of the National Strategy for Youth Sector Development in Moldova. The effective implementation of the Strategy will be a guarantee that the young people are at the forefront of the development in Moldova.
