Project card - Develop life skills and healthy behaviors of students in Vocational Education (VET) & training for their development and job readiness
UNFPA and Austrian Development Agency joined efforts to support young people from vocational education. The three-years project “Develop life-skills and healthy behaviors of students in Vocational Education & Training (VET) for their development and job readiness” was signed on 5th December 2019 and its focus is primarily in educational institutions from Chisinau, Cahul, Nisporeni, Rezina, Orhei, Edinet, Riscani, and Balti cities. The project is addressing the critical needs of young girls and boys for health and rights education, supporting them to adopt safe behaviors, prevent early pregnancies, and successfully graduate the studies, and integrate into the labor market.
Improving institutional capacity of the National Bureau of Statistics: project fact-sheet
The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), as the main coordinator of statistical system of the Republic of Moldova, is leading the implementation of the Strategy for Development of Statistical System. This project aims to improve institutional capacity of NBS in implementing its Operational Plan 2018 – 2020 based on the Strategy for Development of Statistical System 2016 – 2020. The project is run by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in partnership with NBS, with financial support from Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and UNFPA.
Generations and Gender Programme: project card
In 2018 the Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Protection launched the “Generations and Gender Programme” (GGP) that aims to strenghthen the availability of data on demographic processes of the Republic of Moldova. UN Populations Fund (UNFPA) became the main partner of the MoHLSP in the implementation of this Programme, with the role of increasing the capacity of national institutions to conduct the Generations and Gender Survey (GGS) using the internationally-recognized methodology, and to provide technical support to the Government in the development of human rights and evidencebased demographic policies.
Expanding Choices: Gender-Responsive Family Policies for the Private Sector in the Western Balkans and Moldova
UNFPA Moldova, with support from the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Protection and Chamber of Industry and Commerce of the Republic of
Moldova, aims to promote an enabling environment for women’s and men’s sustainable work-life balance. UNFPA Moldova will actively engage the private sector in the implementation of family-friendly workplace policies and the development of an organizational culture encouraging women’s labour market participation, while supporting the realisation of both women’s and men’s desired fertility.
Project card: Improve the availability of administrative data for tracking the progress of the ICPD agenda in the context of SDGs
This project will transform the national statistical system towards a registerbased data and will contribute to the tracking and achievement of several national SDGs. Improving the accuracy and availability of administrative data is a commitment of the Strategy for Development of Statistical System 2020, and recommended by Eurostat, as part of the Adapted Global Assessment of the national system of official statistics of Moldova. As the experience of developed countries shows, that builds their statistical system based on register-based data, an interoperability platform for the exchange of administrative data increases the timeliness, reduce the costs, and provides more accurate and detailed estimates for various sub-population, including vulnerable groups. The statistical population register will be a cornerstone for the preparation of the upcoming Population and Housing Census in the 2020 Global Round and, in long term, will support the National Bureau of Statistics in moving from traditional census to register-based census.

Institutional Capacity and Needs Assessment for the 2020 Census Round in the Republic of Moldova
In order to strengthen the capacity of NBS staff for successfully carrying out the 2020 Population and Housing Census Round, UNFPA, with support of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), agreed to provide technical assistance for the evaluation of the last census and the preparation for the next census. This report on the Capacity and Needs Assessment is part of the technical assistance provided by UNFPA and SDC for starting preparation of the next global census round. COVID-19: A Gender Lens: Protecting sexual and reproductive health and rights, and promoting gender equality
Disease outbreaks affect women and men differently, and pandemics make existing inequalities for women and girls and discrimination of other marginalized groups such as persons with disabilities and those in extreme poverty, worse. This needs to be considered, given the different impacts surrounding detection and access to treatment for women and men.
Women represent 70 percent of the health and social sector workforce globally and special attention should be given to how their work environment may expose them to discrimination, as well as thinking about their sexual and reproductive health and psychosocial needs as frontline health workers.
