Adolescent pregnancy in the Republic of Moldova. Qualitative study summary

The goal of the qualitative sociological study is to explore and identify the key factors and behavioral patterns that lead to adolescent pregnancy, thus helping to identify the necessary interventions to prevent them. The study was based on 5 focus groups (2 with adolescents and 3 with specialists) and 68 in-depth interviews with young girls with pregnancy experience under age of 18 years, with the male partners of the young girls, the parents of adolescents and adolescents with pregnancy experience at age under 18 years old, specialists who had experience in teenage pregnancies in the past 3 years. For the collection of data, an interview guide adapted to each category of respondents was used. Data collection took place between December 2018 and March 2019.

Joint Fund for the development of Youth Centers and strengthening participation and civic engagement among young people in the Republic of Moldova for 2017 -2022. Project's fact sheet.

Fact Sheet

The Joint Fund, worth about $ 1.5 million, was created by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MoECR) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in 2017. In 2018, the Swiss Government joined the Fund with an additional financial contribution of $ 1 million. The Joint Fund aims to increase the level of civic participation and involvement of young people in local communities. In this sense, during the period 2017-2022, the development of the network of Youth Centers in the country takes place and partnerships are created between the School-Youth Center-other stakeholders / local actors.

UNFPA Moldova 2018 annual report

Annual Report

Thousands of young people reached with information about their reproductive health and rights; unique data about the attitudes of women to cervical cancer prevention launched;  the first ever "Gender and Generations Programme" in Moldova funded and launched by the Government; new partnerships with private sector and vocational schools to empower young people established. These are just few milestones reached by UNFPA Moldova in 2018, in partnership with Government, development partners, civil society, local authorities and communities.

The study was carried out by Magenta Consulting company, under the leadership of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, with the support of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) as part of the project "Prevention of cervical cancer in the Republic of Moldova".
