Chisinau - Social Theatre is a form of interactive theatre, created and played by young amateur actors on issues related to sexual and reproductive health and rights of young people.

Social Theatre aims to present the vision of young people on their sexual and reproductive health and rights issues, including the prevention of sexually transmitted infections and HIV, unwanted pregnancy, risk behaviours, prevention of discrimination. The actors, who are students trying the parts involving the public in finding solutions to social problems addressed.

 

Anyone can become a theatre actor social

The difference between social theatre and drama theatre is the creation method. If the traditional theatre play is created by a play writer, staged by a director and played by actors. In the social theatre, the actors are the play writers and directors because they create the play. Traditionally a social theatre play can be created in several hours and it does not require complicated preparations. Anyone can initiate the creation of a social theatre team.

The spectators become actors

Any social theatre play, which is quite short, up to 15 minutes, can have an infinite number of plots. It can have an unexpected ending, mainly because its end is often defined by the public. Spectators at a certain moment become actors. Since it is interactive, the social theatre actors involve the public in the room to participate in finding solutions for the problems addressed. If you play in a social theatre play, you have to be ready at any moment to face twists, unexpected change, improvisation.

For 7 years in Moldova

Social theatre initiative arrived in Moldova 7 years ago and since then became a way to inform young people about issues related to sexual and reproductive health and rights, used the network of peer educators Y-PEER Moldova and UNFPA Moldova. Every year, in November, the National Social Theatre Festival takes place. Hundreds of young actors from across the country participate in these events.
