The “Generations and Gender” study is the first and most complex longitudinal demographic study that monitors the demographic changes taking place in the Republic of Moldova. This is a global study, conducted to date in over 24 countries and is part of the international program coordinated by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Interdisciplinary Institute of Demography in the Netherlands (NIDI).

In the Republic of Moldova, GGS was implemented at the request of the Government of the Republic of Moldova, being part of the Global Generations and Gender Program (GGP) and is implemented by the United Nations Population Fund in partnership with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the National Bureau of Statistics and the Institute Interdisciplinary Demography of the Netherlands. The study was made possible by financial support from the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the India-UN Development Partnership Fund and UNFPA Moldova.

The participants in the study were over 10,000 people aged 15-79 from 153 localities of the Republic of Moldova, except for the region on the left bank of the Dniester. Being a longitudinal international study, to be conducted in three waves, the study participants will be visited repeatedly over 3 years, to understand the demographic changes that occur over time. See in this infographic the most important conclusions based on the GGS survey.
