Across the globe, nations are confronted with multi-dimensional demographic transformation. The Republic of Moldova is no exception, where the population is getting smaller, more mature, more educated, and more economically active, among many other changing characteristics. Together these trends have complex implications for how society is organized, fueling the need for informed, long-term planning based on data. This ‘Demographic Resilience Review’ examines the future demand for critical services and infrastructure in Moldova. It uses population projections to judge demand in key sectors by 2050 – explicitly considering the change in age structure and population size, while exploring the policy implications and larger demographic context.

The review has the purpose of 1) showing how demographic change fundamentally alters the need for social and physical resources, and 2) promoting a commitment to regular, in-depth demographic evaluations to inform Government planning and resource allocation.
