21 September, 2019 - The World Cleanup Day is one of the biggest civic movements, uniting 180 countries across the world for a cleaner planet. This year, due to the involvement of the Cimislia Youth Centre, more than 100 high-school students from Cimislia district organized a major clean-up action in their town. Young people also raised awareness on climate change and showed support to the global climate movement.

Young people cleaned up litter and mismanaged waste from the streets, parks and forests.

Three educational institutions from Cimislia in partnership with the Youth centre and local stakeholders joined efforts and dedicated the World Cleanup Day, which is observed on 21st of September, to cleaning the town and mobilizing the community around climate actions.

This activity harnessed the power of young people, volunteers, teachers, local authorities and community members to achieve incredible things by joining together. They cleaned up litter and mismanaged waste from the streets, parks and forests. They also demonstrated team spirit and civic engagement for the benefit of the environment and the whole society.

"We take attitude and encourage you to do the same": Young volunteers raise awareness about climate actions and show support to the global climate movement.

The initiative was planned during the Youth Summer Camp, organized earlier this year by Terre des hommes Moldova as part of the Joint Fund for Developing Youth Centers and Strengthened Participation and Civic Engagement of Young People in the Republic of Moldova, set up by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the United Nations Population Fund.

The Fund supports young people to be actively engaged in activities promoting a healthy lifestyle and civic engagement and participation, through community mobilization initiatives, sports, cultural events and other awareness-raising activities.
