Chisinau - On June 19-22, UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Alanna Armitage will undertake her first mission to Moldova. She will use this opportunity to reaffirm UNFPA commitment to support Moldova in the areas of sexual and reproductive health and rights, data, gender equality and young people.
Several important bilateral meetings are scheduled to take place during her visit in Moldova, including with the Prime Minister of Moldova, Mr. Pavel Filip, the Minister of Health Ms.Ruxanda Glavan, Minister of Labor, Social protection and Family Ms. Stela Grigoras, and Ms. Oxana Domenti, Head of the Parliamentary Committee for social protection, health and family, to discuss priorities of the new UNFPA Country Programme 2018-2022 and strengthen partnerships for achieving Sustainable Development Goals.
The Regional Director will participate in the launch of the regional course on colposcopy for cervical cancer prevention in the Republic of Moldova, which is part of UNFPA regional initiative “Capacity building for cervical cancer prevention in EECA countries”. On June 21, Ms. Alanna Armitage will participate in a high-level workshop dedicated to #SheDecides initiative, which is to promote sexual and reproductive health and rights of women and girls.
Ms. Alanna Armitage will meet with young people from Orhei town to talk about their participation in a community, their access to quality public services including health and education, as well as their awareness about rights to information and services on sexual and reproductive health for building healthy behaviors.
