Prime Minister Dorin Recean and UNFPA Executive Director Dr. Natalia Kanem held an official meeting in New York, where they discussed the future of the partnership between the Republic of Moldova and UNFPA. Among the initiatives discussed was the development of innovative projects, such as EmpowerAIHub, a lab aimed at promoting social inclusion and gender equality.

The Prime Minister Dorin Recean highlighted the essential support provided by UNFPA over the years, noting the organization's contributions to the swift response during the Ukrainian refugee crisis, sustainable interventions in maternal health, strengthening statistical data, as well as youth and older persons' empowerment programs. He emphasized the importance of UNFPA's support in developing effective public policies and the socio-economic development of the country.

During the discussions, the two officials also addressed the topic of the Population and Housing Census conducted this year, which will provide qualitative data for the Government of the Republic of Moldova in the process of public policy development.

Dr. Natalia Kanem, UNFPA Executive Director, reaffirmed the organization's commitment to continue supporting the Republic of Moldova in its development journey. Key areas of cooperation will focus on creating social innovation hubs to reduce inequalities, combat gender-based violence, including digital violence, promote data-driven governance, and strengthen the country’s demographic resilience through investments in human capital at all ages.

"As we advance on our European path, the expertise and assistance of international partners are essential to enhance public administration capacities, optimize financial management, adjust legislation, and digitally transform the Republic of Moldova," stated Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

UNFPA has been present in the Republic of Moldova for nearly 30 years, being one of the leading UN agencies in the fields of data for development, reproductive health, gender equality, and youth empowerment. Moving forward, the cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and UNFPA will continue to focus on developing strategic innovative initiatives that ensure sustainable progress for all generations.
