The Minister of Health, Ala Nemerenco, and the Resident Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in the Republic of Moldova, Nigina Abaszada, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the period 2023-2027.

The Minister of Health, Ala Nemerenco, and the Resident Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in the Republic of Moldova, Nigina Abaszada, signed today, August 16, a Memorandum of Understanding for the period 2023-2027.

The memorandum focuses on strengthening cooperation in ensuring universal access to quality sexual and reproductive health services, including family planning, information and education, as well as the implementation of the policy framework in this area.

Thus, the document provides for the collaboration of the parties in order to intensify measures to improve access and quality of services regarding family planning, prevention of cervical cancer, prophylaxis of HIV infection in groups of population with increased risk of infection, clinical management of cases of sexual violence.

UNFPA supports the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova in equipping perinatal centers and other medical institutions that provide services in the field of obstetrics and gynecology with high-performance equipment, including the Mother and Child Institute, Oncological Institute of Moldova and other medical institutions.

Likewise, UNFPA provides support to the national health system in ensuring the availability of ambulances for the pre-hospital emergency service and perinatal centers.

In the context of the response to cases of sexual violence in the Republic of Moldova, UNFPA supports the training of medical personnel, the provision of medical kits for post-rape assistance and the equipping of emergency units to ensure the clinical management of rape cases according to the created protocol.

Since the beginning of the refugee crisis in Ukraine, UNFPA has been covering the costs of gynecological and obstetric services provided in our country to refugee women from Ukraine.
