The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in the Republic of Moldova and Bayer signed a Cooperation Agreement in the fields of sexual and reproductive health and rights, and population and development.
Bayer will support UNFPA Moldova in fulfilling its mission, contributing, through information activities, to expanding the population's access "to life-saving information, in order to ensure a better health of the population, at all ages." Thus, Bayer joins, together with other private sector partners, the campaigns developed by UNFPA Moldova, such as "Plan Your Life" and "Digital Skills Connect Generations".
By signing this Agreement, UNFPA Moldova and its business partner affirmed the commitment to unite their know-how and resources for developing communication activities that would support the implementation of governmental policies nationwide in the announced areas.
Dr. Nigina Abaszada, UNFPA Moldova Resident Representative, emphasized the role of partnerships in social development and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals agenda, noting that “the business environment, private companies, can improve the life of the community in general, and of each individual. Private sector has both financial potential and know-how, which can be successfully applied in the field of social development”.
“This partnership aims to expand people's access to life-saving information, contributing to a better health for all, at all ages. Family planning is a right of each person, an instrument that enables to enjoy sexuality without deviating from the chosen life scenario. In the absence of this planning, in the absence of protection from unwanted pregnancy and also from sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV, many women, men and young people have to give up their potential, studies, jobs and other plans so as to follow the path of a life that took shape suddenly, without being the choice of the person,” stated Nigina Abaszada.
The areas in which the collaboration between UNFPA and Bayer will take place are related to the promotion of the population's right to family planning and, implicitly, to modern methods of contraception; also, the rights to active and healthy aging, mental health and well-being, including through the development of inclusive information materials tailored to the needs of different population groups.
Bayer will support the designing and promotion of informative materials about sexual and reproductive health intended for health specialists and the general population. The company will co-participate in activities aimed at assisting older persons to manage their own health needs, using innovative online learning channels and instruments.
Bayer, in the person of executive manager Ms. Elena Armașu, underlined the importance of the private sector’s participation in this initiative with a social impact. “Bayer serves the basic human needs: health and food. In all the activities, we are guided by our goal “Science for a Better Life”, while our contribution for society includes prevention and treatment of diseases, encouragement of care for own health, production of a sufficient quantity of food for everyone, showing respect for the natural resources of our planet,” stated Elena Armașu.
While referring to the social role of family planning and modern contraception, Ms. Elena Armașu mentioned: "In this partnership with UNFPA Moldova, we want to respond to the need of every person to control their lives, to make the choices they want and to equip them with tools that would help them to do so. This is what we want to offer - more information about access to what makes us free to plan our lives the way we want."
A leader in modern contraception and in integrated solutions for agriculture, Bayer is a strategic partner of UNFPA globally, following consistently its vision “Health for all, Hunger for none”.
UNFPA is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, with the mission to deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person's potential is fulfilled.
