The high-performance, state-of-the-art equipment was provided by the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and the US Government, which supported the endowment of the surgery block with a contribution worth 4 million 700 thousand lei during the year 2023-2024. The entire capital renovation project was financed from the subsidies of the Ministry of Health, and the organization "Salvați Copiii Romania" purchased soft furniture and medical furniture.
The surgery block was equipped with equipment to ensure high-quality assistance in obstetric and gynecological emergencies. These include operating lights (ceiling type), electrically operated tables, anesthesia machines, electrosurgical units and others.
In addition, equipment dedicated to newborn care includes incubators, transport incubators, neonatal resuscitation tables, neonatal CPAP ventilators, neonatal lung ventilators, neonatal cardiac monitors, phototherapy lamps and neonatal bilirubin meters .
The modernized operating theater will serve thousands of women and children every year. Annually, approximately 2,800 surgical interventions are performed in these rooms, of which more than 70% are emergency interventions. These include over 1,800 caesarean sections, about 1,000 gynecological operations and 10% endoscopic interventions. Also, since February 2022, free medical services are offered in this subdivision to refugee patients from Ukraine.
Together with its partners, UNFPA demonstrates its firm commitment to support the efforts of the Ministry of Health to strengthen the capacity of the perinatal service in the Republic of Moldova by equipping delivery rooms, operating rooms and intensive care units with high-performance medical equipment, as well as to strengthen the capacities medical staff regarding the clinical management of obstetric emergencies and quality intranatal care.
This inauguration represents an important step in improving medical services for mothers and children and contributes to ensuring reproductive health in the Republic of Moldova. The new equipment will facilitate and optimize the working conditions for the medical staff, increase the safety of patients and reduce the risks associated with surgical interventions.
