#Supercoders inspired 140 teachers from across the country eager to explore generative Artificial Intelligence tools and become mentors for their students in online safety. During the training workshop for teachers from 70 schools, held on October 12, they learned about digital violence prevention measures, including strategies to prevent cyberbullying, identify warning signs, and report incidents. Then, on October 26, in each of the 70 schools, they organized digital workshops on Artificial Intelligence for adolescent students, as well as a workshop on online safety and monitoring internet risks for their parents.

The eighth edition of the national #SuperCoders project was held under the auspices of the Orange Moldova Foundation in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). It is part of the #bodyright movement launched in 2023 by UNFPA in collaboration with Orange and other organizations, aiming to increase awareness among young people and parents about digital violence and online safety measures.

Olga Surugiu, CEO of Orange Moldova, noted, “SuperCoders is a national digital education project that Orange Moldova has been running since 2016, with tens of thousands of students across our country learning coding and the art of programming.”

Karina Nersesyan, the UNFPA Representative in Moldova, highlighted, “We all deserve to be safe both in the physical world and online. Teacher training is essential, as they are on the front lines of education, playing a crucial role not only in shaping adolescents but also in supporting their parents. Only through collaboration can we build a safe and responsible online environment for all.”

This year, for the first time, parents joined the workshops to learn about online safety and digital violence prevention. During the workshops, students discovered how to use artificial intelligence effectively, while parents learned how to protect teenagers and prevent digital risks.

Mariana Morari, a teacher at "Regele Mihai I" Gymnasium in Cimișeni, Ciuleni, shared, “In this #SuperCoders workshop, students learned about AI, how to use it responsibly, and the risks of irrational use. They’re learning to create images, songs, and generate texts using applications like Suno, Leonardo, and Gemini.”

Liviu Bescu, a student at "Regele Mihai I" Gymnasium, said, “I’ll use this information to research topics that interest me. I’ll explore different AI applications, ask questions I’m curious about, and find answers that may not be easily accessible.”

Silvia Sava, a parent participating in #SuperCoders, emphasized, “We live in a digital age where social networks and the internet present various information that our children cannot filter. That’s why we need to know how to protect them.”

About #SuperCoders: #SuperCoders is an international project created by the Orange Group, beginning in 2014. The event is held in the context of the European Coding Week, which this year took place from October 14 to 27. In Moldova, #SuperCoders was launched in 2016 with the goal of bringing digital education closer to children and young people. In previous editions, over 7,000 participants nationwide learned the basics of programming and discovered a passion for technology through #SuperCoders.

The 2024 edition of #SuperCoders expands to include digital safety and is held in partnership with UNFPA, implemented by TEKEDU.
