Approximately 9,000 people were invited to participate repeatedly in the second wave of the Generations & Gender study, which is to take place in the fall of 2023 to monitor demographic changes, such as the realization of the population's reproductive intentions, emigration intentions, satisfaction with own life, etc.

Respondents were asked to confirm their contact details and were informed that the data of the Generations & Gender Study are currently being used by the authorities to identify measures to transform the demographic crisis into an opportunity and to strengthen the demographic resilience of the country.

Thus, 5 evidence-based policy documents have already been developed and others are to be developed. Based on these documents, the Parliament and the Ministry of Labor, in partnership with UNFPA, developed the normative framework that supports families to have the desired number of children: new options for the child care allowance were approved, the work schedule was made more flexible for families with children, the period when paternity leave can be requested has been extended, etc.

As the GGS study is longitudinal and unique in its way, taking place once every 3 years with the same people participating, in order to understand how things have changed over time, we kept in touch with the respondents through physical visits, brochures, letters and phone calls.

The Generations and Gender Program is implemented by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA Moldova), in partnership with the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Moldova (MMPS), the National Bureau of Statistics and the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demography Institute (NIDI). The Generations and Gender Study (GGS) is the first and most complex longitudinal demographic study, carried out to date in more than 24 countries and is part of the international program coordinated by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demography Institute (NIDI).
