As of April 16, the Russian-language version of the online platform presenting the latest situation on Coronavirus cases (COVID-19) is active in the Republic of Moldova.
This platform was launched in Moldova a month ago, on March 20, and has since recorded a record figure of over 1 million views. The platform is visited daily by both local and foreign users, with an average number of about 60 thousand visitors per day.
The dashboard is based on a global platform and was adapted for Moldova by a local developer at the request of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Protection with extensive support of UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund.
The ArcGIS COVID-19 global platform is a joint product of the John Hopkins Institute (USA) and Esri company (USA) currently being used in more than 100 countries around the world to monitor the Coronavirus epidemic.
In Moldova, the platform monitors several indicators, including the number of confirmed and suspicious COVID-19 cases, the number of deaths, and the number of people who have recovered. The data are disaggregated by age, sex, geographical location, time of registration of the case (day/month), including confirmed cases among pregnant women, which allows a detailed understanding of the situation.
The National Agency for Public Health updates the platform twice a day – in the morning, between 7-8 and in the evening, between 5:00 and 6:00.
The Russian version of the platform was developed with the support of NGO "Positive Initiative" and UNFPA, part of UN Moldova's efforts to ensure the accessibility of information for all people and promote social inclusion.
