The UNFPA continues its collaboration with the Ministry of Health to bolster the perinatal services in the Republic of Moldova, aiming to provide high-quality intranatal medical support and responsive care tailored to the needs of mothers and newborns.
One of the key efforts supported by UNFPA in this area includes enhancing the skills of health professionals in the national system on intrapartum care that upholds fundamental human rights. This approach prioritizes the specific needs of women for quality care and a positive birthing experience.
This is the latest Human Rights-Based Intrapartum Care for a Positive Birth Experience workshop moderated by Dr. Rudiger Pittrof, UNFPA International Consultant, Honorary Associate Professor of Maternal Health at the School of Hygiene and Medicine Tropical in London, an event attended by about 30 professionals from the national health system.
According to Dr. Rudiger Pittrof: "The best approach to childbirth is the one based on human rights, when the emphasis is on respect for human dignity. When the mother and baby are provided with quality care, a non-discriminatory attitude and the best medical practices available."
During the workshop, the national experts discussed the principles of childbirth assistance based on fundamental human rights and centered on the needs of the woman and the newborn, the progress achieved at the national level regarding the provision of intrapartum assistance for a positive birth experience, the the most recent recommendations of the WHO in this field, being analyzed the ways of their transposition in the national normative framework, in order to apply good international practices in a national context.
The workshop was organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Moldova, in collaboration with the Mother and Child Institute and the "Nicolae Testemițanu" State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, and supported by UNFPA Moldova.
