A delegation of six Ambassadors and Executive Board Members representing Member States of the Executive Board of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS concluded a three-day official visit to the Republic of Moldova from 2 to 4 December 2024. 

The visit provided the delegation with insights into the work of UNDP, UNFPA, and UNOPS in the Republic of Moldova and their alignment with the country’s development priorities. During the visit, the delegation engaged with high-level government officials, including Prime Minister Dorin Recean, ministers, state secretaries, local public authorities, and the Central Electoral Commission to discuss Moldova’s development agenda and partnerships with the United Nations.

The delegation visited Orhei, Molovata, Călărași, and Ungheni, where they observed UN-supported initiatives in civic engagement, youth participation, gender equality, refugee support, maternal health services, social protection, and assistance for survivors of gender-based violence. They also witnessed efforts to foster dialogue between partners and civil society organizations across the Nistru River.

Energy and environmental sustainability featured prominently on the agenda, with Board members learning about Moldova’s strides in energy efficiency, water and waste management, green transition, and solar power usage. The delegation also engaged in discussions on justice reform, electoral integrity, and fair elections.

The delegation commended the contributions of UNDP, UNFPA, UNOPS in advancing Moldova’s development priorities and addressing emerging challenges. They highlighted innovative approaches and tools aimed at accelerating progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing the commitment to leaving no one behind.

As governing body representatives, the delegation reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the continued efforts of UNDP, UNFPA, and UNOPS in helping the Republic of Moldova achieve sustainable development, benefitting all of its people.
