The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Moldova signed an Agreement of Cooperation with the School of Management in Public Health, to disseminate broadly the results of the Generations and Gender Survey (GGS) among representatives of the academia, which will facilitate a better understanding of public health issues, fertility behavior, infertility, mental health etc. The GGS analysis will complement the theoretical component of the existing syllabus.
UNFPA also provides fellowships for the most innovative scientific papers and will support the organization of national and international academic events to present the analysis developed by teachers and MA students based on GGS results. The GGS data will be integrated in study programs of the SPH. Teachers and students will be trained by international experts on how to access and process the GGS micro-data to use them in their research.
"GGS provides an excellent basis for a better understanding of trends in demographic, economic and social policies. It is important that the fertility, ageing, health of the population be analyzed not only from a medical perspective, but also from a social one. From this point of view the study has a great potential for researchers", Nigina Abaszada, Resident Representative UNFPA, said.

The GGS was conducted for the first time in the Republic of Moldova and will offer high quality disaggregated statistical data to be used for development of evidence-based demographic policies on: health issues, fertility behavior, infertility prevention, intention to have children, number of desired children, population ageing, migration, low life expectancy, especially among men, and other aspects. To collect all this information, more than 10 thousand people were interviewed during 2020, covering more than 500 questions.
The Survey data is opened for researches and may be requested on the official website of the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI), which is the Project implementing partner and data distributor. By accessing the GGS platform, researchers, students, and university professors will be able to conduct comparative data analysis for the 24 countries that have already conducted the survey. The final report of the Generations and Gender Survey will be launched officially at December 2021.
This is the second Agreement of Cooperation signed by UNFPA with academia sector. The first agreement was signed this summer with the Moldova State University.
Generations and Gender Survey is a global survey, conducted so far in over 24 countries. In the Republic of Moldova, the Generations and Gender Survey is implemented by the United Nations Population Fund, in partnership with the Ministry Labour and Social Protection, National Bureau of Statistics, the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Institute, with the financial support of MLSP, UNFPA and India-UN Development Partnership Fund.
