Republic of Moldova, like other countries in Eastern Europe, is facing major demographic changes. Population aging, youth migration, and low fertility rates are leading to a continuous decline in the population numbers, which raises multiple questions.
How many people will be in the country, how should public budgets and social protection systems be planned?
All these questions require data and evidence to illustrate the current situation and inform future steps.
The International Conference: "Building Data Governance for efficient decision making policies," which will take place in Chișinău on March 25-26, is a platform where experts from Moldova and abroad will come together to discuss the complexities of population data and demographic trends, and propose innovative solutions for data-driven governance that meets the needs of the people.
The international event is organized in Moldova, as the country is committed to the path of joining the European Union, and the use of quality statistical data in the governance process is a mandatory requirement.
The event will bring together representatives from central and local authorities, development partners, the academic community, research institutions, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector.
Among these are: the Vienna Institute of Demography/Austria, UNECE, Charles University/Czech Republic, Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research Rostock/Germany, and others.
During the conference, we will discuss:
- Harmonizing legislation and adopting emerging best practices;
- Confidentiality, data protection, and cross-border collaboration; accessing resources and promoting inclusive growth and development;
- Harnessing the potential of the population for sustainable socio-economic progress;
- Efficient use of census data for robust development;
- What population projections are and how they can help in budget planning;
- How improving evidence-based policies helps strengthen local development and demographic resilience.
- This event is an opportunity to strengthen Moldova's and other countries in the region's capacity for an effective response to demographic challenges, for constructive dialogue among all decision-makers, and for the exchange of experience and knowledge between the Government, local authorities, civil society, the academic community, experts, and international partners.
The Opening Panel of the conference will be broadacsted LIVE on Privesc.eu Platform at this link
