On September 29, the inauguration event of the gynecological cabinet from the Medical Department of Penitentiary No. 13 in Chisinau took place. The cabinet was equipped with high-performance medical equipment, including equipment adapted for people with special needs.
This donation was made possible thanks to the sustainable partnership of UNFPA Moldova with the Ministry of Justice and comes as a result of a comprehensive analysis of the urgent needs faced by the prison system in the Republic of Moldova, as part of the response to the humanitarian crisis.
The inauguration event was attended by Veronica Mihailov Moraru, Minister of Justice, Nigina Abaszada, UNFPA Moldova Resident Representative, the leadership of the National Administration of Penitentiaries and the head of Penitentiary No. 13 from Chișinau, who reconfirmed the development of sustainable partnerships and making joint efforts to promote and achieve the objectives of development and modernization of the penitentiary administration system.
The renovation and equipment of the gynecological office to provide medical care to patients detained in the penal isolation cell, especially for pregnant women, will favor the development of the quality of medical services offered to women in detention and will ensure a good activity of the medical staff in the penitentiary institution.
The office was completed with state-of-the-art medical devices, including an adjustable gynecological armchair, an examination lamp, an instrument sterilizer, a medical instrument closet, a medical manipulation table, a medical couch and medical furniture.
At the same time, in the women's holding sector in the criminal detention center, two recreational sport grounds were renovated and equipped with outdoor sports equipment. Moreover, books and devices for digital publications (e-book) are to be donated for the institution's library readers.
The total value of the donation is 860 thousand lei, and similar donations with modern medical equipment and devices will also be made to Penitentiary No. 16, in Pruncul - hospital-type penitentiary.
