The health system is one of the actors involved in helping victims of sexual violence. With the support of UNFPA Moldova, hospitals in all districts of the Republic of Moldova benefited from post-rape kits, which include medicines and supplies necessary for the prevention of sexually transmitted infections, post-exposure prophylaxis for HIV, pregnancy tests and emergency contraception.

The subject was discussed thoroughly in the TV show „Te Salută Vocea Basarabiei”, together with Victoria Ciubotaru, obstetrician-gynecologist at the Mother and Child Institute. The doctor emphasized that it is vital for the population to know that they must reach the health system within the first 72 hours, because it is during this period that sexually transmitted infections, HIV and the prevention of unwanted pregnancies can be prevented.

Victoria Ciubotaru encouraged the population, especially women, to request the necessary help and contact the health system if they have been subjected to sexual violence:

„They should not be afraid to reach the health system, because we have well-trained people, people with knowledge and possibilities to help them. This trauma is not only physical, but also a psychological one that could mark their life. In order to avoid these things, it is good to contact the specialists”.
