UNFPA will partner with the National Agency for the Prevention and Combating of Violence against Women on ensuring that women and girls in Moldova live free from violence. This collaboration was discussed within the official meeting of the UNFPA Resident Representative in Moldova, Karina Nersesyan, with the General Director of the ANPVC, Viorica Țîmbalari.

As Moldova progresses on its pathway to the European Union, UNFPA and all development partners are committed to bringing social protection services up to EU standards.  This includes preventing and combating all forms of violence against women and domestic violence in the Republic of Moldova, including within refugee communities,” said Dr. Nersesyan.  UNFPA will support the agency's work in two areas: raising awareness of gender-based violence and leveraging evidence-based data on gender-based violence.”

During the meeting, UNFPA facilitated the transfer of a vehicle to the National Agency to support the agency's mobility in its efforts to provide the necessary support, ensuring that women and girls receive the dignified and safe care they deserve.

The vehicle donated by UNFPA will significantly contribute to facilitating the mobility of the agency's team and immediate intervention, as well as achieving a significant milestone in the consolidation of services to combat gender-based violence (GBV) in the Republic of Moldova. Thus, ANPCV will bring GBV services closer to women and girls across the country, part of its mission to prevent and combat all forms of violence against women and domestic violence in the Republic of Moldova, including within refugee communities.

"We express our deep gratitude to UNFPA for the donation. This means of transport represents an important resource that will enable the agency to intervene promptly and effectively in the territory, to ensure a systemic and multidisciplinary response to cases of violence against women and domestic violence. Therefore, this support will facilitate the movement of our teams of specialists directly into the community, where they will be able to provide assistance and specialized interventions", said Viorica Țîmbalari, General Director of ANPCV.

During the discussions, the officials discussed the effort to eradicate gender-based violence in Moldova, the importance of data, harmful practices against women and girls, supporting regional multidisciplinary teams, promoting women's empowerment programs, combating gender stereotypes and promoting equality.

We remind you that, in December 2023, UNFPA transferred another 10 vehicles to the new Territorial Social Assistance Agencies (ATAS) within the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection. The initiative contributes to achieving a significant milestone in the consolidation of services to combat gender-based violence (GBV) in the Republic of Moldova, part of the measures provided by the "RESTART" reform.
