Title: UNFPA Driver, Chisinau, Moldova, Service Contract, SB2.2

The Position:

UNFPA Moldova is actively involved in the humanitarian refugee response to the Ukrainian crises, supporting provision of women and girls’ health services, including reproductive maternal health and psychosocial support and Gender-Based Violence support and referral assistance to refugees from Ukraine to the Republic of Moldova.

In order to strengthen the logistics capacity of the growing humanitarian programme, UNFPA Moldova will be hiring a Driver. Under the guidance and direct supervision of the UNFPA Administrative Associate and in close cooperation with the Humanitarian team, the Driver performs driving, maintenance of vehicle, clerical and logistics functions.

Expected Results/Description of Responsibilities:

  • Drives for UN officials and staff. Ensures provision of reliable and safe driving services by a) driving office vehicles for the transport of UN staff, officials and visitors and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items, and b) meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport including visa and customs formalities arrangement when required.
  • Drives for Humanitarian Team and performs a high number of trips in humanitarian settings.
  • Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports.
  • Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes and water levels, car washing, etc. so that the vehicle is kept clean and in good running condition at all times.
  • Ensures proper use of vehicle maintenance plans and assistance in preparing vehicle history report.
  • Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies including vehicle insurance, vehicle registration, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts in the assigned vehicle.
  • Keeps track of insurance and other tax formalities.
  • Ensures that the steps required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in an accident.
  • Assists office staff in filing, photocopying and maintaining stores when required.
  • Assists in the mailing and distribution of newsletters and publications and arranges to pay office telephone and other bills, as required.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

 

Qualifications and Experience

Education: 

  • Completed Secondary Level education.

Knowledge, Experience and Skills required:

  • At least 3 (three) years of driver work experience with a valid driver's license and safe driving record.
  • Working experience in international organization, embassy or UN is an asset.
  • Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies, and local roads and conditions.
  • Proficiency in current office software applications and corporate IT systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Certification in defensive driving is an asset.
  • Certification in armored vehicle is an asset.
  • Experience in driving 4x4 vehicles is an asset.
  • Knowledge of communication equipment such as radio, GPS is an asset.
  • Knowledge in minor vehicle repairs is an asset.
  • Additional working years as a driver is an asset.

Languages:

  • Fluency in written and spoken Romanian and working knowledge of English.
  • Working knowledge of one or more additional languages relevant for Moldova, including Russian, Bulgarian, Gagauzian, Romani, Ukrainian or sign language would be an asset.
