The Position:

The Communication Specialist post is located in the UNFPA Moldova Country Office in Chisinau. The incumbent will report to the UNFPA Representative focusing on the refugee humanitarian response.

You will maintain collaborative relationships with all programme and project staff at the UNFPA Moldova CO, including UNFPA Representative, Programme Analysts, Project Managers and the CO’s programme/technical team and Humanitarian Team. You will also maintain collaborative relationships with external contacts including other UN agencies, donors, the UNFPA Regional and HQ Offices.

UNFPA Moldova is actively involved in the humanitarian refugee response to the Ukrainian crises, supporting the women and girls’ refugees to access quality health services, including sexual and reproductive health, psychosocial support, gender-based violence /post-rape care and referral services.

Expected Results/Description of Responsibilities:

The incumbent will be responsible to strengthen the information flow and visibility of UNFPA’s assistance by leading the implementation of the communication strategy of the Country Office; while highlighting the reproductive health, women’s protection needs, and refugee response mechanism in Moldova and the ways in which UNFPA has responds to those needs.

You would be responsible for:

  1. Ensures implementation of the communication strategy;
  2. Engage with national and international media to raise visibility of UNFPA mandated issues;
  3. Manage UNFPA Moldova/English website, social media platforms and other public information sites;
  4. Lead communication and visibility for campaigns, launch of flagship reports and commemoration of UN days;
  5. Support the communication and visibility for resource mobilization;
  6. Carry out any other duties as requested by Representative

Qualifications and Experience

Education: 

  • Advanced degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in working with communications and media with UNFPA or other United Nations organization, including in humanitarian settings;
  • Strong analytical, written and presentation skills;
  • Experience as a communication specialist, either free-lance or for a media provider;
  • Good knowledge of humanitarian response;
  • Experience in advocacy and communication material development is an advantage.
  • Experience in managing social media accounts is an advantage.
  • Initiative, strong conceptual abilities, sound judgment, strong interest in humanitarian work, especially the mission of the United Nations Population Fund and dedication to the principles of the United Nations.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English and Russian is required.
  • Working knowledge of one or more additional languages relevant for Moldova, including Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Gagauzian, Romani, or sign language would be an asset.
