A Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research (MECC), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Swiss Agency for Cooperation and Development (SDC) and the Council of Europe was signed on Thursday, May 16, in Chisinau. The Memorandum supports the implementation of the SDC Program "Moldova: Promoting Active Civic Participation" (FACE Program) for the years 2018-2022, which aims to contribute to an inclusive, peaceful and democratic Moldovan society with engaged citizens.

As part of this Program, UNFPA Moldova, with the financial support of SDC, will implement the project "Strengthening Civic Participation and Involvement of Young People in the Republic of Moldova". UNFPA will support the MECC to develop partnerships between schools and youth centers to facilitate pupil’s involvement in the development and implementation of community initiatives and to apply in practice the knowledge and skills accumulated within the discipline "Education for Society".

The project will include several interventions at policy, institutional and community level fostering a favorable environment for civic participation of young people.

The Council of Europe, with the financial support of SDC, will carry out the project "Education for Democracy in the Republic of Moldova", focused on promoting the values and standards of the Council of Europe in the field of civic education through the reconceptualized discipline "Education for society".

The signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation for the implementation of the FACE Program took place within the National Conference "Promotion of democratic values through education in the Republic of Moldova".

"We welcome this great partnership between the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research and the development partners, which will contribute to the growth of a healthy and smart generation of young people, able to fully participate in the society and build a prosperous future of the Republic of Moldova", Natalia Plugaru, Assistant Representative of UNFPA Moldova, said.
