‘Take care not to be knocked up’, ‘I’d better die than talk to my parents about this’, ‘When my menstruation began, I thought I had a serious illness’, ‘She just looked for it wearing such a short skirt’ - these are some of the prejudices that still exist in the Moldovan society.

Despite the progress made in recent years, attitudes towards the sexual and reproductive health and rights of women, men and young people remained largelly unchanged.

As a result, we are facing a growing number of adolescent unintended pregnancies, violence, sexual harassment, and psycho-emotional problems among youth. All these things could be prevented and improved with education and free communication on these topics.

UNFPA Moldova, together with Suntparinte.md media platform is running the Let's Talk! campaign for the first time in our country to speak openly about the reproductive health and rights and break the existing taboos and stereotypes.

The campaign was launched through a public event on 18 September 2019, followed by other similar events in communities.

The event brought together national and local partners from various fields, including decision-makers, civil society, parents and young people, the media, influencers, the private sector, who exchanged ideas and good practices and explored their role in changing the situation.

Let’s Talk! is a global campaign with the same headline developed by the Elbi platform together with the famous fashion presenter and activist  Natalia Vodianova, with the support  of UNFPA. In November 2018, the first global event of the Let's Talk campaign series took place in Antalya, Turkey.

In the Republic of Moldova, the Let's Talk campaign also coincides with the 25th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development in Cairo, which revolutionized the approach to sexual and reproductive rights, focusing on the free choice of each person to plan their family and life.
