Chisinau – The Youth Peer Educators Network Y-PEER Moldova organizes the 7th edition of the National Social Theatre Festival.

The festival will take place on Saturday, on November 26, 2016, in Ialoveni, starting with 11:00. The entrance is free of charge.

This year Festival will be attended by over 200 young people from different parts of the country, which formed 14 theatre teams. Each team will present one a social theatre play, they have created especially for the Festival, on an actual life problem of young people in Moldova. The social theatre plays will address three topics this year:

• sexual and reproductive health, including the prevention of sexually transmitted infections and HIV, unwanted pregnancy, risk behaviours, adolescence risks, responsible behaviours;

• sexual and reproductive rights violations, and breach of the right to information and quality services, prevent discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation;

• preventing irresponsible and risky behaviour, which is the most common cause of accidents among young people.

Through art and improvisation young actors will involve the public to participate in finding solutions for the problems addressed.

The participating teams this year were selected based on a rigorous competition among more than 30 teams, which have signed up to the Festival this year. Since September, young people have taken advantage of training in social theatre techniques, organized by Y-PEER Moldova and in trainings on sexual and reproductive health and rights. They presented plays in the educational institutions in their towns and villages. The best 14 teams have reached the final stage of the National Social Theatre Festival.

The National Social Theatre Festival is organized by the per educators network Y-PEER Moldova with the support of Ministry of Youth and Sports and UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund in the Republic of Moldova.
